The DSA Practical Driving Test may only booked if you hold a valid Theory / Hazard Perception Test certificate and hold a provisional licence.
You will be ready for your driving test when you can drive safely without prompting from your instructor. The DSA Practical Driving Test is approximately 40 minutes in duration.
The test will commence with an eyesight test, you must be able to read a number plate in good light at a distance of 20.5 meters.

If you answer one or both of the questions incorrectly, this will result in one minor driving fault being recorded.
Having completed the first two sections you will then commence with the practical driving phase. You will be given directions from the examiner around a set route. The route will consist of a variety of road types and conditions i.e. minor / major roads dual carriageways, town / rural driving, to highlight your ability to drive at different speeds and in different conditions. The examiner will ask you to perform two of the following manoeuvres
Reverse parking behind a parked car or into a parking bay
Reversing round a corner
Turn in the road
You may also be required to perform the emergency stop
hile you are driving the examiner will note any faults committed on the driving test report form. The driving faults are categorised into minor, serious and dangerous. At the end of the test the examiner will total up the number of minor driving faults under each heading and overall. If you commit sixteen or more minor driving faults you will unfortunately fail the driving test. If you commit one or more serious or dangerous driving faults you will also fail the driving test.
